We are excited to announce that Professor Brian Schmidt signed the 100x Asteroid Declaration. He is an astronomer at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Australian National University. Schmidt, Adam Riess and Saul Perlmutter jointly won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics for their observations which led to the discovery of the accelerating universe.

Here is a Quote by Schmidt about why we should take the asteroid threat seriously:

A major asteroid collision, unlikely in any given year, represents a substantial risk for humanity because the consequences can be so major. The technology to map out dangerous asteroid’s orbits exists, and should be more fully exploited. This is a risk humanity should do its best to eliminate.

— Brian P. Schmidt, 100x Asteroid Day Signer
